I made my way pushing and jostling through the crowd of people at the dining hall. The smell of half cooked and utterly tasteless food spread through the place, making the hot weather more stuffy. Standing in the queue and tapping my foot impatiently, I soon grew frustrated. The line was moving at a snail's pace.

The people moving in and out and the tired crowd twittering and filtering here and there was a typical of all college canteens.

Soon I grabbed my plate and they loaded it with the unpalatable junk. Scrunching my nose, I went to the farthest corner, trying to find a table to eat my lunch in peace.

Lo behold, no table was empty. I shifted uncomfortably, darting my eyes around the room to find just one familiar face in the sea of unknowns.

Sitting on the third table to my right I found the person I least expected. I almost ran to the table, because I had wanted to talk to her for many days, but never got the opportunity.

She was my senior from the medical students and the friendliest of them all. Meeting her was a long story, but whatever the matter was, I admired and adored her like anything.

As I approached their table, she looked up and I greeted her. Everything was as natural as ever with she talking to her friend and me eating my lunch in silence.

Just then somebody swooped down on the lone empty chair at the table, talking excitedly about a test they had.

The new person seemed to have found a solution to some critical problems related to their surgery papers and he was talking animatedly with my seniors. It was pretty obvious that they were good friends.

Half of what they said didn't enter my head, but overall I tried to smile and not show how bored I was as they discussed their question paper.

I nibbled at my food, waiting for the conversation to end and for me to get some time to ask a few things to Tamsin, my senior.

"Okay, so I need to go. Please send that to me," Tamsin's voice broke my reverie. I munched on, keeping my ears wide open to catch a gap in the conversation.

"Sure, but I don't have your number," the deep, male voice chuckled.

I looked up to see Tamsin roll her eyes and shake her head in defeat.

The man gave a full throated laugh again and proceeded to send the message. I turned to call Tamsin, but it was too late.

Dejectedly I cursed my luck and went back to my food. The man got up and went away and I was all alone again.

Twiddling my spoon in my hand, I was thinking of ways to kill time when the same voice jolted me awake.

"So, what about you?"

The man had come back with a plate of food and settled beside me on the empty chair.

His dark eyes were waiting for a reply. I had surprisingly forgotten the question.

"Umm, sorry. What about me?"

"Are you a first year or a second year student?"

"First year," my heart was beating fast. Boys were never my field of interaction and on top of that, he was a senior.

"Oh... What's your name?" he flashed me a genial smile.

"I... Umm..."

Okay...now I had forgotten my name even. What a calamity!

Hey everyone... This is an experimental piece which I want to expand. Do you want it you go on?

What do you think?
