I woke feeling the sun on my face telling me it was morning. I get up and got dressed for the day. I sat down the table to eat breakfast with my father. He was surprisingly in a really good mood this morning.
"Morning Son. How was your sleep?" he said cheerfully
"I slept alright. The dragon raid last night kept me up a bit though." I say eating my bread
"Oh, sorry son. We didn't kill any dragons sadly but we did save all the food they were trying take from us." He said proudly. I liked it when he was in a good mood. There's always more of a chance I can go outside by myself for a bit. An hour or so outside alone really makes me relax. I just need to make sure I'm not gone for long otherwise a search will be in business when I'm actually only a few feet away from home. Ok more like in the forest behind my home but he should know if I'm not back in time, I'm where I always go when I get to go out. There's a small tree just a few metres from my house where I sit. I listen the birds chirps and the bees buzzing around the flowers I thought I'd plant for them. Any noise from nature made me feel like I could see what was going on around me.
"Hey dad? Can I go for a walk by myself today? This time I promise I'll return early so you don't have to go out looking." I pleaded. I heard him sigh meaning he was thinking.
"Ok son. But not too long this time ok? Some people are saying there may be a dragon in the woods somewhere." I nod and finish off my breakfast.
"Thanks dad" I love it when he's in a good mood. It won't last long sadly.

I finish up my breakfast and put it on the sink. I call out to my dad that I'm going out for a quick walk. I close the door and walk down the stairs. I decided to take a different route around the forest. I don't go this way often because I sometimes get lost. So, I figured I'll leave a dig a trail for me to follow on the way back. I start stomping and kicking the grassed dirt in front of me. I used my feet to feel ahead and it was dry meaning I've made a good dirt trail.

As I was walking I heard a rustling noise slightly to me left. I started to dig my trail towards the noise. As I was walking, I suddenly felt something right in front of me. I felt it's hot breath fanning my face. I slowly reached out to see if it was a person or even a breathing tree. It was neither. I slowly touched the nose of something. Is this the dragon everyone was talking about that was still on the island? The dragon didn't move. I heard him make a cooing noise when I started patting his neck.
"hey there big fella. Did my village hurt you?" I felt him pull away but within seconds felt him put his tail in my hands. I touch his tail only feeling on tail fin.
"Oh man. I'm so sorry. I wish I could've helped" he pulled his tail away and put his nose to my hand again. He trusts me.
"Hiccup? Where are you it's time to come home" I heard the distance voice of my strangely still happy but worried father.
"I've got to go. But I see you tomorrow if I can ok." He lightly licked my hands which made me giggle. I heard him walk away and I turned myself around and followed my trail back. I was standing at the edge of the forest when I felt my feet leave the ground.
"Oh Hiccup. I'm glad you're ok. The other teens said you went wandering into the forest and I thought you got lost." This is probably the most worried I've ever seen my father
"dad I'm fine. I know forest and where everything is" I try to reassure him I hear sigh knowing what he was about to say
"Hiccup. We've talked about this multiple times. You can't know where everything is." He kind of sounded... I don't know. Weird while saying this.
"yes, I can. I know that the teens are over to my left you're obviously right in front of me and half of the village is listening to this conversation instead of doing their work. Oh, hi Gobber how are you?" I say and I could feel Gobber suddenly stop but then keep walking. I smirk knowing that I shocked him
"Oh, morning Lad. I'm doing well. Stoick I need to talk to you for a minute" I heard him walk away and left me standing there waiting for him to come back. There is one advantage of being blind. I can hear very well. Losing one sense made all my other one stronger. Hearing being my strongest now. They were talking about the dragon's nest and how they need to go and check it out... again. I swear my dad spends more time trying to find that dragons nest than he does spending time with me.
"Hiccup. It's time to go home. You've had enough adventures for today"he says sternly. I sigh and follow him home.
"Alright Hiccup. You stay here while I go to the Viking meeting."

I was sitting in the main room and I hear my dad walk in after the meeting. I had something to tell him and I really hope he'll listen.
"Dad I need to talk to you dad" I say feeling a little nervous
"I need to speak to you too" he says, hearing him rub his hands together
"You go first dad" I say
"Alright. So you've got your wish. You will be starting dragon training in the morning with Gobber as your guide. You'll be doing some of the training with the dragons" he says. Sounding proud and scared at the same time.
"Oh man I should've gone first because you know, we have a surplus of dragon fighting Viking but do we have enough bread making Viking or small home repair..." I was stopped before I could finish
"You'll need this" he says putting a helmet firmly on my head. He could've done it more nicely.
"Dad I don't want to fight dragons."
"It's your time Hiccup" he says more firmly
"Can you not hear me. I'm the blind one here"
"This is serious son. You need to learn how to take care of yourself. No more of this"
Did you just gestured to all of me?"
"Deal" he says not answering my question
"This conversation is feeling very one sided" I treated to argue back
"Deal" he says sternly. I let out a sigh
"deal.."
"Good. Train hard. I'll be back probably" sounding unsure
"And I'll be here. Maybe"

Here's the first chapter. I hope you guys like it. I'll update both of the books next weekend. Hope you enjoy the rest of yours.
