Pretty soon, Sophia and her friends were clean and ready to meet the Wizard of Oz. They found a few guards marching around.

"Is the Wizard in there?" Sophia asked.

"Yes, and why do you wish to see him?" one guard asked.

"It's really important," Scarecrow declared. "I wish to ask him to give me some brains."

"I need a heart...so...I...can...," Tin Man was about to say, but then he stopped.

"Tin Man needs a heart, so he can move around the way we humans do so," Sophia declared. She and Scarecrow wound up Tin Man as much as they could.

"And I wish to ask him for some courage," Cowardly Lion declared.

"I see," the guard said. He turned to Sophia and asked, "And you, my dear?"

"I need to get home to Nebraska by tonight," Sophia stated. "My wedding is tomorrow."

The guards were astounded to hear this.

"A wedding?" the guard gaped. "Well, a wedding can never go on without the bride. We will let you in to see the Great Oz."

The guards opened the door to the building where the Wizard was, and Sophia and her friends quietly got inside. When they made it to the end of the hall, they saw a big flat screen TV, and on the screen was the Wizard.

"I am the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz!" the Wizard announced.

"Hello, Mr. Wizard," Sophia greeted, curtseying.

"Greetings, and I know why you're here," the Wizard declared. "Please, step forward, Tin Man."

Tin Man stepped forward and the Wizard guessed, "You've come to ask me for a heart. Isn't that right?"

"Yes, Mighty sir," Tin Man smiled. "That way I wouldn't have to use this key."

"Very well," the Wizard smiled. "Okay, let me see you, Scarecrow."

Scarecrow stepped forward.

"Do you wish to ask me for a brain?" the Wizard asked.

"Yes, I do, O Mighty Wizard," Scarecrow declared.

"Very well," the Wizard smiled. "Now let's see you, Mr. Lion."

Cowardly Lion stepped forward, and the Wizard declared, "You wish to ask me for some courage. Isn't that so?"

"Yes," Cowardly Lion replied.

"Okay," the Wizard grinned. "Now you're your turn, Ms. Sophia Parker."

Sophia stepped forward as the Wizard told her, "You, my dear, wish for me to send you home to Nebraska."

"Yes, Mr. Wizard, and I'm getting married tomorrow," Sophia replied.

"Tomorrow?" the Wizard gasped. "Well, then the Great Oz has agreed to grant your requests, but you'll need to perform a little task: bring me the broomstick of the Witch of the West."

The quartet was horrified—if they had to bring them the Wicked Witch's broomstick, it meant they'd have to kill the Witch. Sophia was dismayed—she didn't want to do this, but she needed to get home to Nebraska, so she had no choice.
