Bearkit sat on the highrock beside Reedstar, awaiting her mentor's arrival. Sorrelpelt padded onto the smooth rock and sat beside the brown and black apprentice. "I hear by look down on this apprentice as she trains hard. Bearkit, do you accept the duties of a warrior?" Reedstar bellowed. Bearkit hesitated then replied "I do". "From now on you'll be named Bearpaw" Reedstar added before Sorrelpelt touched noses with her apprentice.

"No, you're meant to sneak up then pounce. Not pounce straight away!" Sorrelpelt yowled as a plump squirrel ran into a bush. Bearpaw looked down at the ground and muttered "I'm sorry Sorrelpelt" She sat down as Sorrelpelt chased a rabbit. After they'd done, they returned back to camp with their prey. Bearpaw felt ashamed of herself for not catching that squirrel. As they entered the camp, Mosspaw bounded up to her and meawed "Do you wanna help me get some herbs?" Her tail swished happily as she waited for Bearpaw to reply. Bearpaw nodded and the two apprentices walked out of camp side by side.

The two she-cats walked alongside the stream that ran through the Riverclan camp in search for Horsetail. Bearpaw was thinking of a way to become the medicine cat. An idea. She got an idea.
