Deli's POV:

"OH MY GOD!" Susannah's voice calls through the house, alerting everyone to her presence as she enters the kitchen with two notes in her hands. "Belly and Deli are gonna be debutantes." She beams. She rushes over to hug us. "It's really not that big of a deal." Belly shrugs.

"I'm sorry, Like, Belly? I mean, I get Deli, but Belly? Like, my sister? Like, that thing, right there?" Steven asks as I give Belly her bowl and the milk with a spoon. "Shut up cretin." Belly snaps, glaring at her brother.

"Ok, this is gonna be so much fun. Just you two wait. there is, uh...there's the tea, the auction, the ball, of course, the rehearsal. I got to write this down." I chuckle at Susannah's enthusiasm. She reaches for a pad of paper, but then whips around with a gasp. "We need to go shopping."

Belly chuckles, walking over to sit at the dining room table. "This sounds...expensive." Laurel says. "I can-" "Oh don't worry Laur, it's on me. That means you too missy. No spending your hard earned money." She says, pointing a finger at me. I hold my hands up in surrender, grinning.

"Besides, it was my idea after all, and we still need to style you for your book party, so..." She trails off. "Girls, are you sure you want to do this? It doesn't seem very you." Laurel says. "It's not." Conrad calls.

"Conrad, could you please be a little more supportive? Now, which of you three are going to be their escorts to the ball?" She asks. "Not me, I went last year." Conrad calls over, taking another sip of his smoothie. "Yeah, and I swore off balls." Steven chokes out a laugh.

"The dances, dude." He corrects. "Wow, guys, stop fighting over us." "I know, I love the enthusiasm." Belly and I say sarcastically. "Besides, I'm not going with either of you. I'm going to find my own date." Belly says. "Me too." I exchange a grin with Belly.

"Wikipedia says debutante ball require instruction in moral sand social etiquette." Laurel reads. "I'm going for a swim." Conrad calls, quickly exiting the house. "Belly could use some etiquette." Steve grins. "Why don't you even pick on Deli?" She asks.

"Bells, the number one rule for anyone is that you don't bite the hand that feeds you and you know I do all the cooking." I grin. "She's not wrong." Steven says, pointing at me. "No offense Beck, but I don't think a country club is the best place to teach Belly or Deli about morals."

"Laur, times have changed. There's a girl debbing this season and she's bringing her girlfriend as her escort, and the club was fine with it." The timer on the oven gives off and I quickly take the bacon out of the oven. "How very progressive of them." I turn to Jere.

"Bacon is done if you wanna make Belly a plate." I say. He nods and quickly does so, placing it in front of her. "Here you go Belly Button. "Well, hurry up! We've got shopping to do." Susannah grins. Before I can say anything there's a knock on the door.

"Uh, actually, can we go tomorrow? I promised some friends I would hang out today if that's alright." I say. Susannah furrows her brows. "Friends?" "Kai Anderson? His dad owns the country club." Her eyes widen and a smile graces her face.

"Yes! That's totally fine. Go on with your day and we can go shopping tomorrow." "What about us surfing?" Jere asks. "We can go when I get back. I don't think it'll take us all day." I tell him. He nods as I rush towards the door. I open it to reveal Kai smiling at me.

"Hey, just give me one second to get my shoes and guitar and then we can go. You can come in if you'd like. There's also food in the kitchen." He chuckles. "Sure thing. Thanks." He walks inside and I direct him to the kitchen. Before he goes in I stop him.

"So, technically I snuck out last night and didn't get caught so, just make up some excuse on how we met." He laugh fully this time and nods. "Thanks." With that I bolt upstairs. Once I'm in the room I put my shoes on and grab my guitar case and song book before rushing downstairs.

By the time I get there Susannah and Laurel have started up a conversation with Kai, Belly is staring at Conrad who is outside swimming, and Jere and Steven have left for work. "Hey, I'm ready." I call. Everyone turns to me.

"Deli, your friend here is very nice. You're welcome here anytime Kai. Tell your dad Susannah Fisher said hello. He'll know who I am." He nods. "Sure thing Mrs. Fisher. Come on Del." I grin and follow him out of the house towards his car.

"You're family is pretty cool, though one of the guys doesn't seem to like me too much. I think his name is Jeremiah? I see him around the club sometimes." I sigh as I climb into the passenger seat of Kai's Camaro.

"I'm sorry about him. He's usually the nicest person, his brother Conrad is the moody one, but lately he's been acting all weird." Kai snorts out a laugh. "I mean, I would be mad too if my girlfriend was hanging out with someone as handsome as I am." He says with a cheeky smile.

I blush. "Jere isn't my boyfriend. Definitely not my boyfriend. I don't have one." I explain. "Seriously? From the look he gave me I could have sworn the two of you had been dating for years." I laugh. "Yeah, no, nope. Not dating." "Good."

I look up at him as he starts to back out, confusion clear on my face. "Good?" He smiles over at me once he puts the car in drive on the road. "Yeah, good."
