The author of this book wishes to make readers aware that while she (the author) does not condone teen drinking, nor does she (the author) believe teens should ever partake in adult activities. However, for the purposes of storyline and character development, one of the main characters consumes an alcoholic beverage in an early chapter.

Apart from the aforementioned, this book touches on subjects such as loss and grief, absent parents and foster care, and teasing-gone-too-far.
