The explosion send me flying back at lest a few meters. I on my back, ringing was all I could hear.

I managed to get up a bit and saw Cato and the others coming back. I saw him walking to the boy who was guarding and he screamed at him, followed by snapping his neck, killing him. I didn't hear the cannon, but I guess it must of went off. I gulped.

I managed to get up and walk away from the Careers as fast as I could, which wasn't all that fast.

Running deeper into the woods, I still haven't regained my hearing fully, especially in my left ear. I lifted my hand to it and felt a sticky substance. I removed my finger to find it red. Blood.

Trying not to panic, I continued walking, in search for Rue.

"Rue!"I screamed as loud as I could. No answer."Rue!"I yelled again.

I tried with the four note song and the mockingjays sang, hopefully sending it to Rue.

And then I heard it, barely missing it."Skylor!"Rue's distant voice said.

"Rue!"I yelled and started running towards the noice."Rue!"I screamed again.

"Skylor!"she screamed again. I can hear her more clearly now. She sounds scared.

"I'm coming, Rue!"I yelled, running as fast as my feet could carry me.

I found Rue struggling on the ground, trying to escape a net. I kneeled down and cut the net with the knife I still possessed.

Once free, Rue jumped from the net and in my arms for a hug. I wrapped my arms around her small frame as she trembled in them.

As we unwrapped each other, she pointed behind me with the words."Skylor, watch out!"she yelled and I turned around, taking an arrow and sending it flying towards whoever was there.

It was the boy from District 1, and an arrow jus flew in his neck. He fell to the ground, struggling to take breath, but seconds later he just laid there, motionless. A canon went off.

"Skylor..."I heard someone say. I turned behind me to see Rue looking at me, then down at her abdomen. A spear was sticking out. She crumped to the ground, but before she can get it, I caught her and put her head on my lap.

"Hey, hey, Rue, it's gonna be okay, alright?"I asked. She was looking straight in my eyes. A single tear rolled down her face.

"C-Can you sing for me?"she asked.

"S-Sing?"I asked and she nodded. I haven't sang since mother died. I swore that I will never sing.

But I can't say no to her. Especially since she reminds me so much of Amber.

"Alright,"I said and took a deep breath, then started singing a song my mother used to sing to me and Amber when we were little.

Deep in the meadow,
under the willow.
A bed of grass,
a soft green pillow.
Lay down your head,
and close your eyes.
And when they open,
the sun will rise.

I heard the cannon going off and opened my eyes, felling the hot tears on my cheek. I looked down at Rue to see her eyes staring into nothing, her chest wasn't moving up and down.

With a heavy heart, I closet her eyes and got up.

As I was walking away from my only alley, I came across some beautiful white flowers. Then, I remembered Rue.

I took as much flowers as I can and went back to Rue. I put a bouquet in her hands, over her chest, then surrounded her with flowers.

Once done, I rose to my feet and looked at where I assumed as I camera. I brought my three middle fingers to my lips, then my hand rose in the air. That's a symbol in my District, meaning goodbye.

I climbed up a three and strapped myself on it, as I do almost every night. Except yesterday. When Rue was still alive.

The anthem started, showing the people who had died today. The first one was the boy from District 1.

That's when it hit me like a train.

The boy from District 1 is dead.

The boy who killed Rue is dead.

The boy I shot is dead.

I realized that I had made my first kill.

Why did it have to be so short😭😭. And the moment when Rue was dying😭😭😭😭. I feel like crying now😭😭😭. I know it's short, but I wanted to end it like that and yeah.
