I look around the room. And tried not to gag. The smell of blood was nauseating. It made me want to throw up. Not to mention the bodies on the ground.

How could this happen? How could anyone let this happen? How could a force of men take out so many agents?

Bruce was busy tending to Natasha who had taken a bullet in the shoulder. Clint was helping the police. Pepper was with Tony, who had taken a serious beating from a band of thugs that he and Steve had encountered earlier. Tony was going to be alright, he just had a few cuts and bruises.

And as for Steve, he was standing on the balcony, staring down at the confetti filed streets. Although, now they were lined with ambulances and police cars. He was trying to calm his thoughts. After the battle that had happened, I don't know how he can calm his thoughts.

I never saw the fight, but I heard the terror. And it was horrifying.

Clint approaches me, "It was best that you stayed out of this one." He sighs and lowers his head, "This is the worst slaughter that SHIELD has ever had in terms of their own bodies."

"How many dead?" My voice shakes.

"Seventeen." He quiets down, "Three of which were top agents. Five were agents in training. And the remaining were miscellaneous employees from SHIELD."

I shake my head. "What am I still doing here?" I mumble under my breath.

"Hm?" Clint asks.

"What am I still doing here? Why am I still a part of this? In a few months time, I'll have a baby. This world. This chaos. It's too much for me to handle."

Clint looks over at Steve. He looks back to me and shakes his head, "You're right. Alice, you can't risk this. You've finally got a family. There's no point in risking it. I think it's best that you get out while you can."

"You sound like you know what you're talking about." I begin to get curious.

"Just trust me. Take my word for it." He replies and then walks away.

Hmm. Since when does Barton know anything about a family? More importantly, kids? I'm curious.

I cross to the balcony and walk through the open doors. Steve didn't hear me. So I walk up next to him and lean against the railing. He jumps slightly but then relaxes. His arm slides around my waist. My head falls on his arm.

"This madness has to stop." He speaks.

"And soon. I can't raise our child in this world. Not with SHIELD still involved."

"What do you suggest we do?" He asks.

"I think I'm going to leave SHIELD. Tonight."
