For StragglyCat

Name: Cicada

I really love this name. I have an OC named Cicada, but he's a male SandWing. I guess I can't say it's original if we both used it, but it is really nice!

Gender: Female

Ok :3

Age: 19 (Young adult, I guess? Dragon years are weeeeeird)

Ikr.. I don't understand them at all lol

Tribe: MudWing

The most underused Tribe of them all! Nice

Rank: Sort of forced to be a soldier during the war by her tribe, but took to her own interests after and became a healer. Youngest out of her sibling group.

Okay! I'm glad she's not a BigWings, most MudWing OCs are from what I've seen. I like this, though healers are kind of overused.

Residence: Mud Kingdom

Makes sense

Appearance: Cicada has very dark brown and thick scales, and her underbelly is a warm orange-brown. The spikes down her back, horns, and claws are black. Pretty simple coloring. Her eyes are the same shade as her underbelly, but with splashes of a startling gold. She has a very petite build, and about average muscularity for a MudWing. Nothing is too unique about the way she is shaped, except that she isn't very attractive. Her eyes are a bit far apart, and she looks lanky despite her muscle because her legs are long. She has a deep scar across the dip where her wing and shoulder meet, so she limps just a bit on that side.  Her balance is off, too, because of her tail having almost been bitten off in battle. The mangled remains of that area are covered with thick bandages that haven't been removed since the incident. Her ability to fight is decent, but it became much harder afterwards (She only had to deal with it for a bit before she stopped being a soldier). She doesn't own jewelry, but instead has a single neck pouch made of leather, the shade of her darker scales. It contains a dagger (for protection and cutting plants) and a lot of herbs and berries for her healer profession.

Okay! I like the coloring; it's simple, but also not boring. The orange-brown color is nice. I also like how you describe her as not particularly attractive, not many people do that. There isn't anything I dislike about this, it's pretty good.

Personality: As a dragonet, Cicada was very loud, curious, and pretty obnoxious. A few years of war toughened her up, so she isn't as irritating. She is very kind and caring about others, and will do whatever she can to help someone in need. As an effect of being so empathetic, she can't stand seeing others in pain. This hindered her abilities in battle a bit, because when a warrior got injured she would be too concerned for them to focus on the fight. She is a blatant extrovert. She likes to talk to other dragons, but they don't like talking to her. She has a problem with trying too hard to be funny. When she isn't trying, she can be, but because she is trying so hard all the time others don't really care. Her humor is weird and more confusing than funny, and usually it just puts people off. She isn't really made fun of, but instead is disregarded and ignored. However, her siblings, as MudWings, are very supportive of her and help when she needs it. They don't take her too seriously sometimes, though, because her mood and view of herself changes so often. She also has little "outbursts" where she will start acting very oddly for no apparent reason. The most common is feeling extremely stressed suddenly and feeling the need to get panicked and yell when she speaks. Emotionally, she isn't very mature or in control of herself. All of her problems added up to a diagnosis of high-functioning autism. She made this diagnosis on herself after she ran some tests, but her siblings still love her nonetheless. Even with all these problems blocking her way, she still obtains a very childish, bright attitude. After she dropped her soldier job when the war ended, she discovered her love for medicine and also realized she is a very fast learner. Her academic knowledge is off the charts, a common trait in those with autism, and this is a good and bad thing. Of course, it helps a lot her with her job, but it's just another thing to make people not like her because it makes her seem like a know-it-all. Most of her personality traits aren't really good or bad on their own, they have separate sides to each of themselves. Her hobbies include searching for herbs, eating, and swimming competitively with her siblings.

Three moons this is long. I love it, though! I like that she has good and bad sides to each of her personality traits, it's very realistic and not done very often. I like that you took the time to describe things like her sense of humor and academic knowledge, those really aren't things that most people include in personalities very often, but they really help me get to know the character better.

I don't know much about autism, but from what I do know I think you did a pretty good job of portraying it. It seems like you did your research on the symptoms and how it affects people who have it, so good job on that.

Overall, this is a really good personality, I'm impressed!
Family:
Mother- Dragonfly
Father- Unknown
Brother- Calamus (BigWings)
Brother- Egret (Second oldest)
Apprentice/Niece- Mandarin (Rain/Mud hybrid)
Friend- Terra

All nice names.

"Backstory: More serious cases of autism existed with Cicada's other siblings, but not the living ones. Her mother had killed them out of fear for other MudWings realizing she had it as well. Dragonfly was narcissistic and thought mental illness was way more taboo than it was. Calamus and Egret showed no signs of the condition, and neither did Cicada until later in life. But shortly after Cicada hatched, Dragonfly's crimes had been discovered. A few MudWing guards caught her sneaking out with a dragonet's body to hide it, and had her taken to Moorhen. She had her executed immediately without thought for other children. She was very distracted, planning attacks left and right against the brutal IceWings in the war. Cicada knew Dragonfly had done something bad after she hatched, but her siblings never told her because they wanted to protect her. Dragonfly had killed four of Cicada's potential siblings, thus the reason her group is so small. The siblings never had a father figure to take care of them until Calamus was old enough, so he was put under a lot of stress.  This caused a period of time in Cicada's life where her attention-dependent personality was ignored, and she became prone to having weird outbursts. They were also not very wealthy, and food was hard to get. Even after Calamus took control of his and his sibling's lives, she still had them. Calamus only noticed after they got bad, and spoke with Egret and decided that she most likely had autism. This was a scary thing for them because of how their mother would've reacted, and even though it wouldn't have affected Cicada they chose not to tell her. They really weren't all too secretive about anything else, they only wanted to keep her from being mentally scarred like them. Cicada was helped to cope with her problems, as well as trained to fight by Calamus. She hated fighting with every ounce of her being, but it had to be done. Her body count was, at the very most, four IceWings. Not very impressive, but as much as she could muster. Calamus and Egret weren't big fans either because violence was a touchy subject for them, but they had no other choice. As all of the brothers and sisters grew older, they became better at dealing with their own problems and helping each other with theirs. Cicada returned the favors of her brothers by comforting them when they were sad about their lost siblings. Once the war was over, Cicada was overjoyed and immediately seeked out a medical school. The wonders of all living things and the capabilities of dragon brains intrigued her. When she nearly lost her tail in an earlier battle, she could not stop asking about how large wounds work, what herbs could help it, etc. etc. But because MudWings are not known for their intelligence, schools of broad and complicated studies were hard to access. Cicada spent a long time applying for any place involving medicine and biology that would take her. Eventually, she found a decent medical school that taught her the basics and a bit more. Paying for this was a shared effort in the group, and since the brothers didn't want to spend what little money they had, they took simple soldier jobs. The group was in a lot of debt while she was at school, and the brothers were lonely without her. It was almost a waste, too, because it taught Cicada little more than she already knew. "But she did meet another MudWing who seemed genuinely interested in the subject (unlike most of the others) and they became good friends through medicine. The MudWing's name was Terra, and was large in contrast to Cicada's personality. She was much more shy than her, and was very hard to keep a conversation with. For some reason, Terra actually liked Cicada's kindness and humor. This sparked an immediate friendship, and both were able to overcome a bit of their faults with each other. Terra knew much more about medicine than the school was teaching her, because her family was very involved with it as well. She seemed only to be there for fun of the subject. Cicada was envious of Terra, and asked for her to mentor her. Terra agreed, and started teaching her an array of medicine related subjects after school was out. They had a little spat about whether or not the mentoring should be free, Cicada wanting to pay her for her time and Terra wanting to do it for free. Eventually, it was decided that the tutoring was not to be paid for. Cicada took Terra to her brothers, and they were happy she had found a friend. Terra had given Cicada her neck pouch after the mentoring was over, but bad news struck afterwards. Terra and her siblings were moving to Possibility in the SandWing kingdom. They wanted to pursue real healer jobs in a place they would be appreciated. Cicada was rightfully distraught for a long time, even more so after realizing her group was too poor to move there as well. After she got over her loss, she applied for an official healing job and got it. A flood of wounded war veterans washed Cicada and her brothers clean out of debt. They soon became decently wealthy, and after the affects of the war died down, they made a steady income. A while after, a sick dragonet crossed Cicada's path on her way to look for herbs. She was begging for food and money. Cicada thought she looked about the age of a middle child, and asked where her BigWings was. The dragonet apparently had no siblings, explaining that she was a Rain/Mud hybrid. She was cast aside by her parents and left on the streets, begging for anything to help her survive. Her name was Mandarin. Cicada knew she had no time or enough money to raise a dragonet of her own, but she had to do something. She bought her some food and took her home to tidy her up. Cicada decided she could mentor Mandarin in her profession so she could get paid, and the little dragonet liked the idea. Calamus questioned how Cicada would have time to take  care of a dragonet, but Egret stepped in and said he could father her. This was strange by MudWing standards, because singular dragonets aren't usual occurrences and fathers don't take care of dragonets by themselves. But the siblings were open-minded, and chose to go along with it. Mandarin was grateful, and took interest in being mentored as well. Even though Egret was known by the siblings for being short-tempered, he proved to be a good father. A year or so later, Cicada is satisfied with her life so far, and continues to live her old childhood dreams.

This is very long, but that's a good thing. There are no missing details or things that are left out, so I'm not left with any questions. For the most part, it's not that.. interesting. Being a healer and having a mentor/apprentice isn't the most original or interesting story, but the beginning part about her mother and her time in the army makes up for that. This could definitely make a nice story. It ends on a nice note, with her following her dreams, and doesn't leave any questions unanswered or with me wondering what happens next.

Overall, this backstory is really good. It's very detailed and well-written. There isn't anything I can think of that I would change or add.

Overall
I love this character! She's very well done, good job! Because there's nothing I dislike about her, Cicada gets a 10/10! I was impressed by her personality especially, there was a lot of thought put into it, and as far as I know she seems like a pretty good portrayal of an autistic character. While there wasn't anything that particularly stood out to me in her appearance, it's definitely not bad. I like the coloring, the colors go nice together.

Sorry I couldn't think of anything to change about your character. I always feel a bit bad when I can't think of a way to improve, because that's kind of the point of this book, lol. But congrats on making a character that's too good.

She will be added to the Hall of Fame!
