Summary: Sometimes no one can save you...

Madeleine Kingston is dead. They tried to save her but it was to late.

Grace Jacobs isn't dead, but she might as well be. Madeleine was her best friend, yet she couldn't see the signs.

James Kingston is broken. Madeline was his twin sister and now half of himself is gone.

When Madeleine died she took a piece of both Grace and James with her. Both Grace and James are left devastated, but they find a box full of letters from Madeline. Twenty for Grace, twenty for James, forty letters total. And all these letters lead up to the day Madeline died.

Reviewer's Remarks: The Girl That Learned to Fly is a short-story depicted in the form of heartfelt letters. This is a heart wrenching tale which deals with dark themes. The letters are written and addressed to various individuals - so it may seem difficult to comprehend at first.

I would've preferred if the letters were a little more longer - in order to understand the story a little better. I was unable to visualize the scenario because the author simply offered vague descriptions. My other concern is the characters and their development in the story.

When composing a story depicted through letters it is even more important to assure that you are displaying your character's personage. There are many books you can take inspiration from such as Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira. The letters are composed in such a way that the audience is able to visualize the story in their minds.

Rating (out of five): 3.5

A note to the author: If you plot out your story and sketch out character profiles it will allow you to have a clear mindset as to how you would like to proceed your story. For proper character development note your details. This means describing a character's physical attributes, their personality, their faults, interests e.t.c. Another tip is to base characters on real people - this makes them more realistic and relatable for readers. Remember that your character has a back story - DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE IT. Keep in mind that you also have secondary characters - do not neglect them. I would recommend looking into Ava Dellaira's novel Love Letters to the Dead for inspiration.
