Part 13 — Denial

"No."

"Huh? Why not?"

"I have a roomate already..."

"Oh?" Grace smiled. "But she moved out."

Zap narrowed his eyes. "And how do you know that?"

"Heh. You haven't been at college recently. She's already told everyone."

"Interesting subject for her to talk about."

"Wouldn't it be?"

"Oh well. Why would you live with me?"

"You'll need a roomate, won't you?"

"Pfft. You wouldn't be able to stand me."

"Oh yeah? You want to bet on that?"

"Actually, living with me is really dangerous."

"I'd love to see what you mean."

"Answer is still no."

"You won't consider?"

"Oh, would you look at that? My shift's over. Bye." Zap began to walk towards the kitchen when Grace asked, "Why are you going to the kitchen if you're leaving?"

"There's an exit through the kitchen that only I use," he said sarcastically. He left. At the kitchen, he unfastened his apron and walked into the manager's office. "Hey," he said. "Is it alright if I take the rest of the day off? I'm not feeling too comfortable."

"I guess that's fine. You'll be back tomorrow?"

"Definitely."

"Alright then."

"Bye. Thank you." Zap walked out through the back door, the door the garbage disposer used, and jumped the wall. "Stupid..."

Back at the apartment complex, Zap walked up the stairs to his room when he saw Grace waiting at the door. She turned to him and smiled. "What the fuck?" He slowly went backwards, leaving and returning to Patience. "I wonder if the manager accepts requests for revoking a break request..."
