At the Airport

You were seated calmly playing games on your new iPhone at Incheon Airport while waiting to board your flight when you saw your friends running towards you. Your eyes widen in surprise, and you are touched to see them breathless and eager to see you off. You had stayed at the Airbnb since Saturday evening, after your parents left Seoul.

Soomin stood in front of you, panting, "Oh my goodness, Yuqi, we heard from Ms. Choi that your flight is today. We couldn't let you leave without a proper goodbye."

You smiled widely as she wiped her brow as if she were running a 100-meter race.

Jiwoo chuckled, "Yeah, we had to come and see you one last time before leaving."

You were grateful and surprised that Yeji had come with them.

Yuqi glanced at Yeji with a big smile, "Wow ! You came too , Yeji?"

Yeji just laughed and nodded softly, "Of course. We heard that you were leaving today so we could come and say goodbye."

Your friends gave you a gift bag full of interesting things.

You smiled with, appreciation because it was filled with all your favorite , forbidden Korean snacks that you were prohibited from eating as a trainee.

Soomin chuckled wiggling her brows, "We got you some snacks that you missed out on and some little gifts. We hope to see you soon, Yuqi. Please don't forget us."

Jiwoo nodded, "Yeji is now sharing a room with us and Ryujin. I heard in three months time a new pre-debut group will be introduced that might train for six months longer, but Soomin and I's trainee contracts are expired, and you know the policies based on that, but Yeji and Lia are still in contract, and there is a huge possibility that they might make that team."

Yeji looked hopeful for the future.

You talked about the exciting upcoming showcase and their hopes of being traded to Pledis or Modhaus. You'll  keep your thumps up for them to make it.

You comment sadly, "I'm so sorry that I can't go do the showcase with you, but know it, I'm very happy for you all. I wish you the best of luck. Fighting."

You urged them to stand together, and you took out Xuanjun's expensive camera gift to capture a cute picture of you together.

You stood up with your camera grinned, "Okay girls, let me take some cute pictures together, Okay. Say cheese! "

The friendly atmosphere was light .Your friends wish you an awesome trip. You made yourself ready to board the plane. Turning to them you gave them a hug each.

You chuckled with a strangled voice," I hope you all debut soon and take the kpop world by storm; I might never see Seoul again."

Soomin shook her head, "Don't say that! Your dad changed his metal head mind. Here are our email addresses: Oh, and Felix sends his regards also, and he wants you to not ghost him. Please stay in touch."

Yeji smiled brightly and said, "Chaewon has a new cell number; it's also on the note. They are super busy shooting their debut video. I'm so jealous of De-N- im. They all got new cell phones from Samsung."

She still looked sad about being eliminated at the last minute.

You were happy that at least one of you was on the path to making a successful debut.

On the plane

Where you sat with your headphones in your business class seat, you decided to lay on your seatbed with your eye mask on, feeling an overwhelming sadness as you reminisced about your life. Alone, you dreaded going home.

When your flight landed, your brother was waiting for you. Fanqia was busy at the university, and of course, your parents were super busy at their clinic.

Xuanjun met you at the airport, and you cried when you saw him for the first time in ten months. He consoled you, holding you tightly.

Xuanjun grinned as he embraced you against his chest, "It's okay, Qi-qi. I'm here now. Everything is going to be okay."

You just nodded sadly as you walked out of the terminal.

At home, the atmosphere was extra tense. When your parents came home that evening, Your dad was scolding you in front of the whole family for ruining your debut by dating against the rules. He couldn't understand why you jeopardized your career like that.

Dad was filled with anger; his face was flushed, "You wrecked your own debut for a boy! What were you thinking, Song Yuqi? You fought us for years to be a K-pop star, and you messed up on the brink of your success."

You couldnt stop crying pleading for your family to forgive you for the blunders and for ruining your own future.

"Please forgive me dad, "you plead to your father, after wiping your face with the palm of your hand.

Your family wanted to know about the boy,but you just told them you were just friends and it was a misunderstanding. They know you would never sacrifice your career for a casual date. You must have really liked the boy.

Mom hugged you softly, "I understand, dear. I know you fell in love with him, Qi-qi, but we are not going to press on knowing his name. I trust that you were responsible even if you made that stupid mistake."

You just dismissed your mom's claims about love, and the atmosphere remained tense throughout the week.

You were just wallowing in your own misery. Sleeping and watching c-dramas on your Netflix account.

The Appointment with Your Dad

Your dad called you into his office that week to talk about your future.

You just looked at him without any expression on your face, staring down at the floor.

"Me and your mother have decided you'll be taking the Chinese college entrance exams again for science and math," he said in a hard voice. "I've got a retired professor who's going to tutor you for it."

It hurt so bad in your throat that you couldn't swallow knowing how much studying you'd have to do. You hated those subjects, but your father was so demanding, so overbearing. You sighed.

You received your dad's punishment like a robot.

"I've talked to one of the shareholders of Tsinghua University. He's going to help pull some strings for us," dad went on. "You're going to go into medicine when you get there." He said they suggested taking the last college entrance exam because there are two spaces left; they will hold a space for you.

The hot summer months came, but your heart was in the winter. It was a summer of despair. You got a job at the local convenience store as a cashier and packer. The money was a minimal wage. You don't know how long you will be able to pay off your debt to your dad.

You were so tempted to sell your luxurious bracelet. That was the most expensive item you owned. But you couldn't bring yourself to sell your love gift. Even if Seokjin chose his career over love, you will always have fond memories, but you didn't contemplate how depressed you became, just crying every night over your lost love and dreams.

Your mental health deteriorated drastically over the summer. You couldn't even get yourself to respond to your friends numerous text and email messages. You were in a dark, hollow hole. You felt suffocated, as if a constrictor were unleashed to drain all your life.

The deep misery and sadness took hold of you, and one evening in the bathroom, you contemplated ending your misery, and if it wasn't for Fanqia, who called out to you, you would have sl*sh your wrists that night. She was undoubtedly unknowing that evening, saving you.

You became more introverted and quiet during dinner times, much to your parents displeasure. You were there in your body, but your spirit was far away in your own reality. Your brothers were busy with projects and didn't really have time to spend with you.

It was only Fanqia who was your companion during the summer. When your dad asked you one evening around dinner about your degree decision, They know you had three choices, so you told him that Tsinghua accepted you and that you would pursue a science degree in nutrition.

You slowly ate some of your fried dumplings and looked up, your eyes empty. "Er, I'm going to become a dietician and go to Tsinghua University with my childhood best friend, Mingling."

Mingling was accepted by their performing arts faculty. She wants to be a famous 'period drama' actress. She loves those films. You are just happy that her parents accepted her choice. It was a childhood dream. You wish you could have made better choices, but you are glad you found love, and loving Kim Seokjin is still bittersweet.

Your friends knew that you were involved because they recognized the new clothes that you bought a few weeks ago in some of the images. Apparently, the Korean media was in meltdown for weeks. You were gone missing, and Seokjin was in the USA. He had an awesome PR team to squash the rumors.

Your family was delighted with your career choice, but your mom saw through your pleased facade. You weren't truly happy, but you wanted to make your family happy. Right now, your parents will be paying for your studies and your accommodation at Tsinghuas' dorms.

Mingling parents asked yours if you and she could share an apartment near the university. They don't want Ming to be bullied at the university, as she was at school. You were excited in your heart that you didn't have to mix with other girls. You could be free to do as you please. You are also tired of living in dorms with girls. At least you will have your own room and more freedom. You and Ming can shop for groceries and make your apartment cute.

That evening, you could see the genuine happiness on your parents faces. Fanqia just sat there with a calculated look. She just couldn't accept that you just gave up on your dreams to please your parents. You just told her that she would understand later. You never had your parents support, but now you somewhat have their attention.

You pursed your lips and looked at your parents, "Please forgive me. From now on, I'll be obedient and not strive for useless dreams. I've given up on being a K-pop star. I've realized it was like chasing the wind and being stupid. I'll be the best daughter ever. So you don't have to worry about me acting out."

That night, you made the biggest and most painful decision of your life. You took out the big vintage case, from your cupboard that your maternal grandmother had gifted you. Your eyes roamed sadly over your bedroom walls, adorned with various K-pop posters and expensive merch like photocards, small items, BT21 merch etc. You inhaled deeply as if you are bidding farewell to longtime friends, you took it all down, clearing your wall from the posters of Blackpink, Twice, and Got7, along with the solo artists from C-pop and J-pop.

You placed your expensive charm bracelet back in it's Tiffany box and gathered all the cute gifts and trinkets from Seokjin, his goodies, and his hats even your favourite hoodies from him. You packed it swiftly away,  your song and music books, along with all your dance and vocal trophies, certificates, and medals from performing arts competitions. You are done!

No one knew what you were busy doing in your room. You cleaned out your life to start over a clean leaf. You closed the chapter on your K-pop dreams and your love for Seokjin once and for all. Fanqia was shocked when she saw your empty bedroom walls. It looked so surreal. She was used looking at a kpop splash on your walls since you were six.

Fanqia whispered in awe, "Yuqi, what have you done?"as her shocked eyes roamed throughout your room which seems so bare.

You were sleeping, stretched out on your bed, when she peeked into your room, realizing for the first time that you had made up your mind to get rid of what stood in the way of gaining acceptance from your family. Fanqia knew that you had buried the'real' vibrant and charming Yuqi far away just to make everyone happy.

A/n Poor Seokjin got a lot of hate and Yuqi moved on from kpop.

1. Do you think fans has to know what is going on in idols lives.

2. If you were in Seokjins or Hybe shoes how would you handle the scrutiny?

3. Was it good for Yuqi to make the decision to go to uni?

4. Would you say you understand her parents pov?

5. Do you think Yuqi is going through depression?

6. Will Yuqi be truly happy at Uni?

7.Do you think Fanqia has a point that Yuqi walked with a mask on?
